Procedures

The physicians at Associates in Ophthalmology, we are dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the quality of life for our patients through the most up to date care.

Some of the procedures and services we provide are:

Comprehensive Eye Exams

BOTOX | JUVEDERM | Glaucoma Treatment | Livingston | CaldwellAt Associates in Ophthalmology, we are equipped with the latest technology in diagnostic and examination equipment. This allows us to provide our patients with the most thorough, comprehensive eye examinations available.

Routine eye exams are very important to monitor the health of your eyes, as well as to determine your need for glasses. Some eye diseases, such as glaucoma, have no early warnings and can only be detected with a thorough eye exam. This is why it is important to have your eyes examined every 1 – 2 years.

Depending on your medical status and your chief complaint, your eyes may be dilated. If they are dilated, your eyes may be sensitive to light and your near vision may be blurry for about 3 – 4 hours. It is a good idea to bring sunglasses with you or we can provide you with complimentary disposable ones if needed. Also, we recommend that you bring someone with you who can drive you home after the exam. Please bring any prescription glasses, such as computer and reading glasses with you.

Glaucoma Care

BOTOX | JUVEDERM | Glaucoma Treatment | Livingston | CaldwellGlaucoma is a leading cause of blindness in the U.S. It occurs when the pressure inside the eye rises, damaging the optic nerve and causing vision loss. The condition often develops over many years without causing pain or other noticeable symptoms – so you may not experience vision loss until the disease has progressed.

Sometimes symptoms do occur. They may include:

  • Blurred vision
  • Loss of peripheral vision
  • Halo effects around lights
  • Painful or reddened eyes

People at high risk include those who are over the age of 40, diabetic, near-sighted, African-American, or who have a family history of glaucoma.

To detect glaucoma, your physician will test your visual acuity and visual field as well as the pressure in your eye. Regular eye exams help to monitor the changes in your eyesight and to determine whether you may develop glaucoma.

Once diagnosed, glaucoma can be controlled. Treatments to lower pressure in the eye include non-surgical methods such as prescription eye drops and medications, laser therapy, and surgery.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX | Livingston | CaldwellBOTOX™ Cosmetic is commonly used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of facial wrinkles. It is injected under the skin into areas surrounding the eyes, forehead and mouth to smooth crow's feet, frown and worry lines, and lines on the neck. Dermal fillers (JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel)

JUVEDERM | Livingston | CaldwellJUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel is an injectable gel that gently reverses many signs of aging in the face, including fine lines and wrinkles, crow's feet, thinning lips and loosening skin. It can also "plump up" the lips, sculpt the cheeks, and restore a youthful oval shape to the face. It is made with hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body that works with collagen and elastin to give volume and support to the skin. Because it is non-animal-based and highly biocompatible, no pre-treatment testing is needed. JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel comes in three formulas optimized for the depth of the area being treated. Results last about 6-9 months and can be made to last even longer with a simple follow-up treatment a few weeks after the initial injection.

Latisse™

Full, natural-looking eyelashes can now be achieved through a prescription treatment called Latisse™. Latisse is the first and only eyelash treatment approved by the FDA to help grow longer, fuller and darker eyelashes and treat hypotrichosis, a condition that includes having inadequate or not enough eyelashes.

Latisse contains bimatoprost, an active ingredient that improves the appearance of your lashes and is often found in glaucoma medication. While the precise science of the treatment is not known, research suggests that the number of hairs and duration of the growth process are increased by bimatoprost.

This prescription medication is applied topically to the base of the eyelashes once a day, after makeup and contact lenses have been removed and any other skincare products have already been applied. While it does not replace mascara, Latisse offers an attractive complement to help further enhance full, long and beautiful lashes.

The results of Latisse are visible after 4 weeks, with full results appearing after 16 weeks. You can track the progress of your results through photographs. Side effects of Latisse are rare but may include itching, redness or dryness in the eye area. You should not use Latisse if you have an active eye infection or broken skin or irritated skin on the eyelid. Call your doctor today to find out if Latisse is right for you.
